I just submitted the story I mentioned in my previous post (Getting Gas) to Tales of World War Z.

I’ve also submitted a story I wrote called “Suicide Note” to Horror Garage.

So, we’ll see how all that goes. I recently lost my first reader. So, we’ll see if I find another good one soon.

I’ve added an extra page to this blog called “The Author”. It’s kind of a short story, based on a quote from Edgar Allen Poe that goes: “Those who dream by day are cognizant of many things which escape those who dream only by night.”

My week has gotten off to a slow start – there’s just so much to do! Anyway, I have submitted a horror story to the online horror magazine podcast – Pseudopod, so I look forward to hearing back on that.
I am working on my fantasy novel, and have been working on horror month on my Bookworm blog. That’s actually one reason my week started slow – I started reading a book that scared me so much I couldn’t sleep – so Monday basically sucked when it came to trying to write.

Today’s a big writing day, and I should get off the Internet and start working. I’ll keep updating the blog semi-regularly with any good news.

Just so everyone can keep track, so far I have submitted two stories to three separate publications. All have been rejected . Here’s the list:

- The Day the Sun Went Out: A Sci Fi short about a lunar eclipse that gets stuck, aliens and when customer service goes horribly wrong.

I sent this to the Writer’s of the Future contest and the Fantasy and Science Fiction Magazine.

- District Z: Set in a polluted earth – the human race is forced to live in computer-controlled domes. An investigator encounters artificial intelligence, bent on killing off people, one by one.

I sent this one to Analog Science Fiction and Fact Magazine.

I’m not here to gripe about getting rejected. In fact, I figured my first few tries would get rejected and wasn’t sure how I’d feel. I felt a little upset at first, unable to see what’s wrong with my work. Now I think I want someone really objective to review it and help me edit my stories. Because, I think they’re entertaining and interesting – so why didn’t the magazine’s and contest see it that way? So, I’m on the hunt for people who want to read my work and get nothing out of it but the pleasure of helping me. Pretty please?

Also, I’ve decided after much deliberation to submit my short story After the Bombs to Writer’s of the Future. I wasn’t going to, as there is some graphic content, but I guess if they don’t like it, the worst they can say is “It’s too graphic”. If it doesn’t win, I may try my hand at querying a couple of magazines, but ultimately I feel kind of guilty doing that, since my editor at Fiction Reborn helped me develop it so much. I wish there was some way she could get some credit besides my undying thanks and gratitude. Any ideas people?

My dad and I met our editor from Fiction Reborn in “meat space” as my dad calls it. It happened like this: I flew out to see my dad, stepmom and stepbrother. I thought, “Hey, our editor lives out here too! I’ll check if she’d like to ‘do lunch’.” She did. We met. It was fantastic. The End. (jk)

Seriously folks, we have so much we are doing! We tossed around some great ideas and it looks like my dad and I may (this is a big, fat MAYBE) co-author a short story together. I think that would be super cool. Also, we are co-authoring a blog. I’ll put the URL up when we have all the kinks worked out (right now, GoDaddy is being a little… *insert expletive*). It’s going to be a fun blog, and I may set up a page on here dedicated to that.

Right now, I’m also working on this site (obviously) and my book review site, which is experiencing similar GoDaddy issues. That’ll be all sorted soon, and I’ll do another post then.

I’ll keep you updated, and I’ll write some more about our fabulicious meeting later, when I’m not so tired. (It’s 12:30 AM here… and I’ve been up since 9:00 AM, which is really 6:00 AM to me).
